The white belt intensive is open to all – those who want to teach and those who simply want to deepen their knowledge and awareness of Nia and mind-body movement. There are no prerequisites however, training in movement, the martial arts or healing arts is very helpful. It will be of particular interest to those in the healing/helping professions – all types of movement and fitness instructors, massage therapists, psycho-therapists, dancers, social workers and wellness practitioners.

Nia student-teacher training is fashioned after the martial arts system – advancement through four basic belt levels that spans a minimum of four years. The white belt is the first level of training. The focus is on learning all about the Nia basics and creates a foundation for the advanced study of mind-body-spirit work in both the fitness and the wellness fields. It is the preparation for blue, brown and black belts.

The information is presented as through theoretical and experiential learning sessions and will be explained through the perspective of science, art, and craft.

The white belt intensive course content is based on 13 principles:

  1. The Joy of Movement
  2. Natural Time & The Movement Forms
  3. Music and The 8BC System
  4. Freedance
  5. Awareness – Dancing Through Life
  6. The Base – Feet & Legs
  7. The Three Planes of Movement & Levels of Intensity
  8. The Core: Pelvis, Chest and Head
  9. The Upper Extremities: Creative Arms, Hands and Fingers
  10. X-Ray Anatomy
  11. Creating A Sacred Livelihood
  12. Continuing Education
  13. Teaching What You Sense
